As I type this, Callie is waking up and having breakfast. It is a special day. I wonder if she knows. If not yet, hopefully soon.
Today Callie turns 3.
And this, this will be her last birthday in China. Her last birthday without a sister to sing to and play with her. Her last birthday without a mom to cover her with kisses.
Oh how we wish that we were there to celebrate with her.
But not yet.
That doesn't mean, however, that there won't be a party.
In China, she should be receiving the birthday cake that we arranged to have delivered to her. (We eagerly await - and will share - the arrival of pictures of her enjoying it!)
And in the Ohio we will celebrate, too. We will gather with friends - and strangers - at Chick-fil-A. Many people will wish her Happy Birthday. With every order placed including a "Happy Birthday Callie", the amazing team at CFA will donate 20% towards helping Callie to come home. (We will follow-up with pictures of this celebration, too!)
And she received her first birthday card - and check - in the mail yesterday from a precious and thoughtful friend. I can't wait for her to know how many people already love her!
My mind and heart can't help return to China. To a woman that will forever hold a place in my heart even though we will never meet. The woman who gave birth to my precious Callie. I don't know what she was feeling on that day when she said goodbye. I choose to believe that it was one of the most difficult decisions of her life. I pray that she will somehow know that her little girl is loved and will one day know the love of a family...and her Heavenly Father.
"May your father and mother rejoice;
may she who gave you birth be joyful!"
may she who gave you birth be joyful!"
Proverbs 23:25

She is so precious! If lived near you, I would be at her birthday party. Blessings
