In northern China there is a beautiful tradition called the Bai Jia Bei, or a 100 Good Wishes quilt. Friends and family all contribute a piece of fabric. The new mom assembles the pieces of fabric into a Bai Jia Bei for their little one. The 100 Good Wishes quilt represents all of the blessings and good wishes from friends and family. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
I love this! For me it is a way for me to be loving Olivia while she is so far away and so close to my heart! (Obviously I won't have this done before she gets home - YAY! We're getting close! - but I think it would be such a beautiful gift for her!) I also love it because it is a way for YOU - my friends and family from all over the world - to be involved! My prayer is that the Lord would lay just the right thing on your hearts to share with Olivia….and she will have a beautiful reminder of how many people love her!
We would be SO HONORED for you to be a part of her life in this way!
So let me give you the details of how this will work:
1. Please pray for Olivia. Ask God to lay something on your heart to pray for her…and her family!
2. Choose a fabric that is 100% cotton. You can choose a girly fabric, a fabric that is from where you live, a fabric that is your favorite design, a fabric with chinese designs…be creative!
3. VERY IMPORTANT!! PLEASE pre-wash and dry your piece of fabric before you cut a 6 X 6 inch piece of fabric for our quilt.
4. This is the fun part. Send us a card as small as 4×6 or as large as 8×10 with a prayer/blessing for Olivia and a scrap of your fabric (glued to the paper). You can write a prayer, your favorite scripture, your thoughts about Olivia, lyrics to your favorite poem or song, or whatever the Lord lays on your heart! BE CREATIVE! You can even include a picture of yourself or your family. Please remember to sign your wish and include your city and state. All of the notes will be assembled in a book for Olivia.
5. If you decide to be a part of this tradition with us please send me an email at jcameron@intothefield.org and I will send you my address.
I am excited to see how this comes together. Thank you for wanting to be a part of this journey with us!
